The RealTalk Team

Hi, I'm Karena.
I believe healing doesn’t always have to feel heavy. Therapy can be a space where you feel safe, understood, and even laugh a little while working through the hard stuff. My therapy style is warm, down-to-earth, and collaborative, I want you to feel comfortable showing up as you are, even on messy days.
I’m a Registered Social Worker with a Master of Social Work from the University of Toronto and have been working in the field for over 8 years. As a first-generation Canadian of Caribbean roots, I value the stories, cultures, and lived experiences that shape who we are. I understand how upbringing, family expectations, and roles can influence our identities, relationships, and mental health. From my own experience navigating racial bias and feeling pressured to meet idealized standards, I hope to create a space where clients can be seen, respected, and free to be themselves.
I specialize in working with individuals from diverse racial and cultural backgrounds and understand how life experiences, including trauma and systemic inequities, can live in both the mind and body. I support clients navigating anxiety, depression/mood disorders, eating concerns, relationship and family challenges, self-esteem and identity, and major life transitions. Together, we work on understanding patterns that no longer serve you, with the goal of feeling more grounded, clear, and aligned with yourself.
Outside therapy sessions, you’ll find me exploring the world or cheering on the Toronto Raptors. Like my love for sports, I bring a similar perspective into my work. I believe therapy is most powerful when we approach it as teammates, working collaboratively to create meaningful change.
If you’re looking for a therapist who’s compassionate, open-minded, and human, I’d love to be on your team.
